By the God’s abundant blessings and the active co-operation of several well wishers we could the first house of the Daughters of the Sacred Heart of Jesuso n Feb. 8th 1980 at Kudamaloor, village hallowed by the birth of St. Alphonsa.
At present scenario we, the Daughters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus have 14 communities, spread over five states in India, two in Italy and one in Germany. The Order is progressing according to the words of St. Paul “be everything to everyone” (1Co.9: 22) as envisioned by the Founders and in association with the local Church. Since 1980, the Congregation has been imparting training and subsequent enrolment to those who are genuinely attracted towards the sacred Heart of Jesus.
The first branch house was opened on 6th June 1980 at Kiliroor.To spread the wings of DSHJ in 1989, accepting the invitation of the Missionary Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament, DSHJ reached to Shimoga (Bhdravathi Diocese). The Daughters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus started their service in Mangalore in the parish of Kankanady belong to the Belthangady Diocese, in 1992.On 17th December 1994 the daughters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus went to North Koppa ( Karnataka). In August 1995 the the daughters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus went to Kalluvayal in Talassery Diocese in the Distrct of Kannur. In May 1999 the Daughters of the Sacred heart of Jesus ventured at reaching out their hands to orphans and destitutes in the Diocese of Kalyan (Maharashtra). On 2007 it became as the Provincial House of Benaglio Province. On March 3rd 2010 as the part of mission expansion we started a new community in Kammam Diocese (Latin) belong to Andra Predesh.

The urgency of the charity of the Heart of Jesus urges the DSHJ towards those most in need, to be flexible in the approach and according to their possibility. The charismatic gift, embodied in the different realities and situations, move the person to serve in a continuing commitment to the promotion, evangelization andthe formation todefend the dignity of the sons and daughters of God. The fields of thepresence of the DSHJ are vast: schools, hospitals, homes for children, adolescents and families in situations of social vulnerability; insertion in the midst of the people and the mission "ad gentes"; take care of women, youth, children; perform spiritual direction and pastoral activities together through the organization of the local Church. To be a significant presence in education at various levels, in thefieldofhealth, social work and among people, recognizable by the testimony inspired by the charism of the Founders and made visible by the quality of the relationshipsand the services for the person, in the various institutions of the Daughters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
St. Teresa verzeri was born of Antonio Verzeri and Helena Petrochi in a noble family at Bergamo in Italy on 31st July 1801. At a very tender age Teresa learned from her mother, to know ardently lone God. She was led in her spiritual journey by the Msgr. Giuseppe Benaglio, the vicar General of the Diocese of Bergamo, who already accompanied the family. With the intention of pleasing of God and doing only His will,she left the Monastery to start the ‘Congregation of the Daughters of the sacred heart of Jesus’ together with the Msgr. Giuseppe Benaglio on February 8th 1831 in Bergamo. On 17th May 1841 the Congregation approved by the Holy See. Teresa died in Brescia on 3rd March 1852. The Church recognizing Teresa’s heroic virtues, Pope Pius XII proclaimed her blessed on 27th October 1946 and as a crown to her life Pope Paul II on 10th June, 2001 proclaimed her a ‘Saint’.
To understand the life and work of Joseph Benaglio (1), who was born in Bergamo on 22nd November 1767 and died on 18th January 1836 , it is necessary to outline and to understand the social , Political ,religious and Church context where he lived and where he carried out his intense work.
